Madwoman Kills Own Baby In Aba

A young men­tally challenged woman has been accused of killing one of her set of female twins in Aba, Abia State, south-eastern Nigeria.
According to a report published by Daily Sun, the tragic incident happened at the week­end when the mentally derailed woman allegedly gave birth to a set of female twins on a heap of refuse and stoned one to death be­fore the police were in­vited.
Residents in the area claimed that an unknown person impreg­nated the woman, whose name could not be ascertained, late last year.
It was gathered that in the early hours of Saturday, 2 August, 2014, that the mentally challenged woman gave birth to two girls on top of a heap of garbage close to an AGIP filling station at Alaoji, along the Ikot Ekpene Road, near Aba.
An unnamed source informed that after she gave birth to the babies, the insane woman fell asleep and when one of the babies started crying, she woke up used a stone she found within the place to hit her and the child died before she could be rescued.
In order to save the second baby, it was informed that residents of the area reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogbor Hill Division, Mrs. Helen Nze, and was said to have led a team of policemen to the refuse dump.

It was gathered that when the police got to the scene, they rushed the baby that was still alive to a private hospital, where she was cleaned and given medication, and deposited the dead one in a mortuary.
Investigation conducted by newsmen revealed that the police are planning to hand over the baby to the Welfare Department of Aba South Local Govern­ment after the necessary documentations due to the inherent danger in allowing the baby to stay with her biological mother.
It would be recalled that a woman that looked like a mad person was caught with a decomposing body of a 5-year-old boy in Mile 2 area of Lagos state in July.
